The Annual Golden Heart Award Celebration honors volunteers who have made a positive impact in Door County.  These individuals and groups give selflessly to make a difference in the lives of others.  This annual celebration shines a light on the BEST OF THE BEST in our community!

A group of diverse community leaders are chosen to judge the nominations, and they make a recommendation for a winner in each category based on the criteria below. The nominees’ names are removed from the judges to keep the process unbiased.

There are 6 volunteer award categories:

  • Adult Volunteer of the Year

  • Arts and Culture Volunteer Award

  • Environmental Stewardship Award

  • Group Volunteers of the Year

  • Karl May Lifetime of Service Award

  • Youth Scholarship

 

 

Nominations are evaluated on the following criteria:

Need- Describe the need for the nominee’s service

Activity- Describe nominee’s activities of service

Initiative- Did the nominee start a new program, use new methods, promote collaboration, solve problems?

Impact- Describe impact or difference the nominee’s service provided

Challenges- Did nominee overcome challenges such as limited resources, public perception, setbacks?

Awareness -for Youth Volunteer Scholarship Awards- How did the volunteer work affect you &  who you are today?
